14mm to 18mm Thickness Engineered Flooring

14 to 18mm engineered wood flooring is the best selling thickness range on the market. Generally, it includes a 3mm or 4mm top layer of oak (or other wood), which can usually be sanded and refinished multiple times. Thinner flooring, with a thinner top layer, can't be sanded down as many times and therefore the flooring's overall lifespan is shorter. This thickness of flooring is ideal for concrete and wooden subfloors that are smooth and level.

9.8mm to 13mm Engineered Flooring

Engineered wood floors with a thickness of 9.8mm to 13mm are designed with height in mind. For example, if you have low access doors but still want a real wood product, a thinner variety of engineered wood flooring is ideal. This does not compromise quality or ability to sand as these floors have wear layers from 2.5mm up to 4mm.

They are also better for homes with underfloor heating systems. A thicker floor provides too much insulation which prevents the heat underneath the floor entering the room while a thinner floor allows the heat to penetrate and warm the whole space. When you're looking for an engineered wood floor to pair with underfloor heating, ensure it's a maximum of 15mm thick.

19mm - 22mm Engineered Flooring

The thickest engineered wood money can buy, 19mm-22mm is perfect for heavy traffic areas. This floor has wear layers that range from 3mm up to 6mm thick, which means it won't get thin too quickly and can be resanded and refinished multiple times throughout its life. This thickness of engineered wood also makes for a more sound absorbent room that feels more structural underfoot.
